This 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190b was refurbished between 2010 and 2015, including a bare-metal repaint, the installation of replacement floors, and overhauls of the suspension and 1.9-liter inline-four. The car is finished in black over red MB-Tex and equipment includes a four-speed manual transmission, 13″ steel wheels with painted hubcaps, wood interior trim, an AM radio, and a heater.
The W121 features integrated “pontoon-style” fenders and unit-body construction with crumple zones, and this example was stripped to bare metal before being repainted black during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior equipment includes fender-mounted turn signals, a driver-side mirror, and bright window surrounds, rocker panel accents, front air inlet ribs, bumpers, and wrap-around upper body trim.
The 13″ steel wheels feature hubcaps with painted centers and are mounted with Hankook Radial H714 tires measuring 185/80. The car was factory equipped with a double-wishbone front and single-joint rear axle suspension with coil springs, and stopping power is provided by drums. The suspension components were overhauled during the refurbishment.
The cabin houses individual front seats and a rear bench that have been reupholstered in red MB-Tex along with a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Interior appointments include wood trim, an AM radio, front vent windows, and a heater.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames VDO instruments consisting of a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level.
The 1.9-liter M121B inline-four was factory rated at 80 horsepower and 102 lb-ft of torque and was reportedly rebuilt during the refurbishment.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. The floors were replaced during the refurbishment, and repairs were also performed to the trailing arm forward panels, firewall, and frame rails.
