This 1957 MGA 1500 roadster was acquired by the current owner circa 1998, prior to which it underwent a refurbishment that included a repaint in white, replacement of the black soft top, and a refresh of the red vinyl interior. This 1957 MGA 1500 roadster was acquired by the current owner circa 1998, prior to which it underwent a refurbishment that included a repaint in white, replacement of the black soft top, and a refresh of the red vinyl interior. The car is powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and service in preparation for the sale included rebuilding the carburetors, changing the oil, and replacing the rear wheel cylinders and the tires.
The body has been refinished in white—reportedly during the mid-1990s—and features a replacement soft top, chrome hood vents, a fender-mounted driver-side mirror, a downturned chrome exhaust finisher, and chrome bumpers with overriders and a front grille guard.
Silver-finished 15″ wheels are fitted with chrome hubcaps and Vredestein Sprint Classic tires mounted in May 2021.
The interior features bucket seats that have been reupholstered in pleated red vinyl with a matching trim rail and door panels, which are contrasted by replacement black carpeting. Amenities include a heater/defroster, an upholstered center armrest, and a dash-mounted map light.
The banjo-style steering wheel fronts a body-color metal dashboard with Jaeger instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles.
The 1.5-liter inline-four came factory equipped with a pair of SU H4 carburetors and was rated at 72 horsepower and 77 lb-ft of torque. Service in preparation for the sale included rebuilding and tuning the carburetors and changing the oil.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox.
An invoice for $1,941.35 from Euro Auto Service of Aberdeen, North Carolina, shows the following work performed in May/June 2021
Rebuilding, adjusting, and tuning the carburetors
Replacing the rear wheel cylinders and brake hoses
Adjusting and flushing the brakes
Replacing the clutch slave cylinder hose and bleeding the clutch
Replacing the tachometer cable
Mounting and balancing four Vredestein tires
Amber-tinted side curtains, a black tonneau cover, and a tool roll also are included in the sale.
